Krups grinder-- broke after < 1 year
I bought this grinder after reading many reviews for various grinders. I did not wish to spend more than . I purchased in Dec 09, and it stopped working in Aug 10. I am disappointed, but thankful I didn't spend more. I contacted Krups (manufacturer) as it is still in warranty, but I would need to ship it back to them for repair. For an item that costs

I purchased this grinder to process mesquite beans,it worked great. and the price is much cheaper than other products. Loving it...

Good little cheap little simple little grinder
I'm enough of a coffee snob to want to grind my locally-roasted coffee myself, but not enough of a coffee snob to sink more than into a grinder. This little guy is very satisfactory!

It doesn't make a perfectly homogeneous grind but it's much more even than the similarly priced Braun I had before. It's quieter than the Braun. It's easier to clean out (with a soft brush) than the Braun. And unlike the Braun it can grind a single cup's worth of beans as evenly as it grinds a full capacity load.

Great for the price. The only thing I really wish were different was the cord: a place to wind it in the base would have been really handy.

My first ever coffee grinder, but I'm very impressed
I've never owned a coffee grinder before. I'm a relatively new coffee drinker, so I never had to own one before. But, with that said, I didn't expect this coffee grinder to be so effective, efficient, and powerful. It seriously blends whole coffee beans to dust within 2 seconds. I thought it might take even upwards of 10 seconds to do, but it's almost instant. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

It lasted less than 2 years with very minimal use
I bought this grinder for herbs, nuts and chocolate grinding...nothing terribly hard and here I am in August 2010 trolling for a new grinder because this one seized up a few months ago which was the last time I needed it. I find that pretty telling. I wouldn't buy it again.

Very Disappointed
I have had several Krups coffee makers and have been pleased with the construction and performance of each of them. The XP2070 means that I will probably never purchase another Krups product. The espresso "side" of the machine failed intermittently after about 6 months, and then permanently about 6 months later. By then the product was out of warranty, and Krups was of no help to fix. From a web search, it's clear that almost all owners are having the same problems with this badly-designed machine. Into the trash goes this very expensive coffee maker. Lesson learned? Ditch the fancy electronics, and go with a simpler, more-reliable (NON-KRUPS!) machine.

DONT EVEN CONSIDER THIS MACHINE!
I'd like to rate it negative 5 'stars.' I've been foolish enough to subject myself to this machine twice. The first symptom of death is the espresso machine will stop working and just grunt. Then weeks later the whole machine will just go stone cold dead. No drama. Just dead.

Don't waste your money!
My husband bought this for my birthday a year ago. I had to replace the 1st one within the first 2 months. The water leaked all over from the coffee pot area. I am now on my second machine and it is just as bad. The steamer on the espresso side doesn't work. There are many other things wrong with this one. This is an expensive machine and is just bad quality.

Great Value, Hot Coffee, Nice Design
I was looking for a cool looking coffee maker, small, not too many cups and sleek.

Krups was perfect.It fits well in my small kitchen, coffee is hot, easy to brew and fast. The price was perfect and better than at the ones in the department stores.

Best Coffee Maker I Have Ever Owned
All of the complaints I have ever had about any other coffee maker do not apply to this one. It brews coffee quickly, the automatic pause actually works, and the spout is long enough to prevent spilling. I recommend this brand highly!

What a coffee maker should be!
The blurb for coffee makers always includes the claims that the coffee is brewed "at precisely the right temperature," and that the "pause" feature allows the user to get a cup before the pot has finished brewing. In my experience, both claims are usually false: the temperature is rarely correct, and the pause feature allows the coffee to drip on the hot plate. We are all familiar with that hissing sound.

This coffee maker's blurb includes both claims, but they are true! How do I know the brewing temperature is correct? The TASTE! And the pause feature does NOT let the coffee drip. The blurb also claims that this maker is very fast. It is. I recently bought a Cuisinart 4-cup coffee maker; in my review I gave it one star. The contrast with this one is as great as could be. This is a very nice machine...and the TASTE of coffee brewed at the right temperature is still in my mouth. Highly recommended. (BTW "10-cup" means 10 x 5oz)

Krups Coffee pots last forever!
We had a krups coffee pot that belonged to my in-laws for at least 20 years. We inherited it after they passed away and had it 5 more years. When it finally died we decided to get another Krups. After researching all the models Krups has we decided on this one. We've had it for about a month now and it's been great. Works great, makes the coffee fast, the timer works great. We like the little clock on the front. It looks nice, easy to clean. I do prop the top open so it will dry out during the day. But that's just me I've done that with any coffee pot I've owned.
As with all "stainless" steels...it does get finger prints on it. I just use a little bit of Windex to clean it up. We like this coffee pot a lot and would recommend it highly.

the perfect replacement
Picked this up for my 84 year old mom as a replacement for her vintage Braun. This machine is simple to use, makes great hot coffee, looks good, and the 2 hour auto shutoff is a plus feature.

poor quality construction
The unit looks nice, but if you have to turn the unit off, and then later turn it back on... you can't, you MUST brew another pot. You also can't brew another pot without waiting for the unit to cool off for a few minutes. The warmer is made of carbon steel painted with heat-resistant enamel. In the first three months of use, the enamel started to show signs of wear. After 10 months, the warmer rusted all the way through. The unit finally died after 10 months; the electronics that control the programming, clock, and - most importantly - the on/off switch, finally died and refused to turn on. Also, in the weeks leading up to the failure, the warmer became nothing more than warm to the touch. If all that isn't enough, the glass carafe has a handle that is glued on, and is not secured to the pot by any other means, which means that if the company went cheap with the other things, it's a sure bet that the handle's glue would have given way soon. The unit is made entirely of plastic, and there is just no excuse for charging the price asked for. Shame on Krups, I expected better from them. Also, this unit is universally sold for - , and I've never seen it sold for , so don't think you're getting a good deal from Amazon, either. Shame on Amazon.

The coffee is the thing
I've been a Krups fan for over 20 years, and while I've tried several other makes, I'm always disappointed. I read a lot of reviews of this item before I bought it, and some of the gripes about it are valid. The control pad is not intuitive at all (keep your owner's manual), the carafe is thin, the lid isn't removable, it's easy to drip while pouring. Those are the main ones that come to mind, but they are all insignificant to me in comparison to the quality of the coffee it brews. I've not been able to find any better, and I've looked. The coffee it brews is truly great fresh, and it's even very good after sitting on the warmer for 3 hours. And this is the least expensive one - unless I needed one that looked better, I can't think of any reason to buy one of their pricier ones. After I received mine and tested it, I bought another just like it (we need two). The coffee is the thing.

some problems
It makes decent coffee, but the problem of air bubbles in the water level measure that others have mentioned is a real one. We now have such a big air bubble in ours that the water level indicator on the unit is worthless.

Multiple issues
I have had Krups coffee makers before and have been very happy with them. I bought this one as a replacement for one that was old enough that when I broke the carafe I couldn't find a replacement. So, prior to this I have been very happy with them. However, this maker has had multiple problems. The programmable feature stopped working early on. Now the reminder beeps are stuck in the on mode. I wake up earlier than my husband and this drives him crazy. About a year into owning it, the outer part of the handle came loose. It reattaches, but frequently falls off in my hand and recently fell off in the dishwasher, hit the heating element and partially melted. Its newest problem (1 1/2 yr mark) is the basket door swinging open in the middle of brewing. I am on this site looking at reviews of other coffee maker brands since I am having so many problems with it that I have to replace it. On a positive note, I do like the quality of the coffee it makes.

Fine cofeemaker, but good luck setting the timer
I'm not sure whether having a PhD. or a lobotomy would have helped, but setting the clock is beyond cryptic and took me 15 minutes of trial & error while holding the instruction manual & reading it over and over and over...

Best Smoothest Coffee
I got one of these about a year ago after one of the generics died, and after doing a lot of research settled on this. Despite the funny shape, and the different way it makes coffee from what you are used to, and despite the lack of fancy gizmos (timer, grinder...) It makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had athome. It comes out smooth,more intensely flavorful, and less over cooked than the run of the mill drip coffee makers. I highly recommend this to everyone.

C O F F E E !
I had this coffee maker while I was serving our country in West Germany. Back then even this maker made the best pot of coffee ever, For ME! I was amazed to see it for sale a few years ago and stumbled everytime I wanted one~! My wife said DO IT because she had to hear the constant bombardment of raves I was giving about it! I got one and wow, what a difference in coffee taste. Its even hard to go to any coffee joint for some brew! My lovely wife is a believer! Thanx KRUPS!

Couple of hints
With so many 5-star reviews, which mirror my evaluations nicely, it's almost silly to add a couple of little tricks which make using this coffeemaker easier to use.

1. There is a coffee tamper, "RSVP Terry's Tamper, .90, available here. This simple device makes preparing the coffee much easier. I believe a uniform pressing of the coffee contributes to a richer brew compared to little or no pressing of the coffee. (After having used it for a couple of weeks, I'd gladly pay twice the price for the convenience and benefit it offers.)

2. After brewing, the coffee is so dry and firmly packed that cleaning out the coffee holder is a bit of a job. Sounds nuts! but it works: place a piece heavy thread or dental floss, about 2.5 inches larger in diameter than the coffee holder, across the holder BEFORE putting filter down. After brewing, hold the two threads tails and gently pull up and out. This encourages most of the used coffee to come out easily without having to dig, scrape, or flush the grounds out.

Good Coffee Stuff
I've had the Krups Moka Brew for about 5 years and would buy another. I've had no problems with it. It has a low profile that lets it slip under my cupboards. I get compliments on my coffee. The Moka Brew is a little fussier to operate than some and doesn't keep coffee warm very long. So, it's definitely best for smaller households of coffee aficionados who savour a mug or two of good coffee and go.

Beware - this item had been discontinued
If you are thinking about buying this item, you should know that you can no longer obtain a replacement carafe (which is made out of a fairly thin glass) for this unit and according to Krups customer care nothing else will fit this model.
