Frieling 0110 Tea Maker with Infuser Basket Reviews By Customers
NOTE: THIS REVIEW APPLIES TO ALL FRIELING MODELS:

THE BOTTOM LINE IS BUY THIS POT AND HEED THE WISDOM SHARED BY MANY OTHERS WHO FINALLY CHOOSE FRIELING FOR THE BEST PRESS. IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO READ ON THEN HOPEFULLY YOU WILL BE CONVINCED.

If you have been on a journey like I have to find a good french coffee press then your journey is at an end with any of the Frieling models. I have had the other two brands and they do not compare and actually cost more in the long run. I was able to sell them used here on Amazon for a surprising price which eventually paid for my new Frieling. Just clean them up good.

This is a vacuum thermos grade pot (other double wall stainless are not vacuum unless stated). DO NOT BUY A NON-VACCUM product. You need to brew coffee at 190 degrees for 4 minutes. This means hot water…not boiling water and it must stay hot at close to 190 for 4 minutes. The time and temperature are critical for clean full flavor and to prevent off flavors and bitterness. So you need a vacuum to keep the water at brewing temp for the time required. This limits your selection to only the Frieling, Bodum Double wall, and the insulated cups from Planetary Design. The later I have not used.

When you look at the price of the Bodum it turns out to be more than it’s stainless steel competitor…break the glass and you will spend over to replace it and you will need to order it on line since I have not found the Bodum Double wall or parts for same at any store, including some distributors in Manhattan. So why buy glass when stainless ruggedness is less? Well the only argument to support that is that the glass, although normally preheated, does not require preheating. The Frieling must be preheated with hot water, tap is fine, so that it does not absorb the heat of the brewing water. This holds true for the Bodum Double as well but not significantly. On the positive side is that the Frieling, once preheated, stores that heat in the mass of the metal and will keep the temperature right where needed.

One reviewer say no parts are available for the Frieling. This is just wrong. First of all the only part that will fail at some point is the filter screen and I have my doubts with how well designed it is compared to the Bodum. You could park you car on the pot and it might not get damaged..no exageration. I bought my 17oz unit from Clive. They had great service and stock all parts…but they will replace anything that breaks if your nice to them for free. www.clivecoffee.com. They usually show up above in sponsored links.

My Bodum filters have not lasted a year. I have replaced the glass from accidents about every two years. The non-insulated pots loose about 40 degrees during brew time (using an infrared themal imaging gun). Here is where the shear mass and vacuum of the Frieling shine. Preheat the press with hot water while getting coffee ground and heating water. To get 190 degree water first bring it to a boil and then leave it for 30 seconds, drain the Frieling and put coffee and the boiled water in it for 4 minutes. It will stay hot for at least 30 minutes but you do not want to brew longer than 4 minutes. So if you have to move it out of the brewing container within about 4 minutes then you just need something insulated well enough to stay at 190 for that period of time. This is what is wrong with brewing cups…you need to remove the coffee grains at the end of the brew cycle not leave them in what your going to drink, even if there are filters like the Planetary Designs cups.

I might cost twice as much up front for the Frieling as compared to the one your looking at buying but you will never buy another french press if you buy this one. If you don’t you will find you spend the same amount on other presses in two years if you are a daily brewer.

It is no wonder that this product is used in the high end restaurant and hotel business where longevity of the investment is critical to being profitable.

All of this and then you will find that this pot is truly elegant. Check Special Price!

Does not keep tea any warmer than a regular ceramic teapot – SWH1111 – California, USA
This tea maker is good looking and convenient, but I was disappointed that it doesn’t keep tea warm despite the claim that it will do that.

Perfect! Finally a Tea Pot that works – LS – SF Bay Area
Pours nicely. Keeps tea hot. Easy to clean. Holds a nice amount. Can’t break it. Small foot print. I’ve been drinking loose leaf tea for 10 years and have used every thing from tea balls to this. This is far and away the best solution. After beaking two glass pots in two years I doubt I will ever be needing to replace this.

This completes my set of Freiling products! – East Coast Lady – PA
This is a quality product, very well made. I don’t think you can find a nicer Tea Maker. The design is beautiful and as to functionality, also very well constructed. I started with a Freiling sugar bowl (actually two, one for sugar and one for artificial sweetener) and the creamer. The quality of the stainless is unparalleled. I was hooked. Next I bought the French Press coffee maker as a gift for my husband. He loves it. Now I have completed my set of Freiling with this Tea Maker. The high polish of this stainless is beautiful. These Freiling pieces are very stylish. I bought All Clad stainless serving trays (sold as a pair, one round, one rectangular, raised edges, with handles) to use with my Freiling set. The Freiling is beautiful for everyday and fabulous when we have company.

swissgold® TF 200 Tea Ball Reviews By Customers
We use this tea ball every day for multiple pots of tea in our brown betty teapot. We have used the balls with a wider mesh and have been disappointed in the amount of tea that get out into your tea. This tea ball doesn’t have that same problem, because the mesh is fine but allows plenty of infusion. We like our tea strong and leaving this tea ball in for 10 minutes makes us a great pot of whatever loose leaf we are steeping. I plan to buy another very soon. The only downside is that the chain doesn’t have the same corrosion resistance as the gold mesh. So it tends to begin to rust over time. We’ve been using ours for over a year, every day and it has only just started to show signs of corrosion. Check Special Price!

a T treasure – F. Santangelo – NY NY
For years I struggled with tea balls that would collect other flavors along the way. This makes the cleanest and clearest tea.I just rinse it after use,no soap.
It has also a good solid contemporary design, if you worry about mixing it with old china.

A little large, but good – E. King –
I got this tea ball after being fed up with other variants I had with pores that were too large and allowed tea to fall into my cup. This infuser works wonderfully, albeit at a higher price than I would prefer.

My only complaint besides the price would be the size. If you’re the kind to leave the tea ball in your cup, bear in mind that this will take up most of the mug.

Good product, poor quality control – Robert J. Murry – Louisiana, USA
This is the second Swissgold TF200 Tea Ball I have purchased. I bought this one because the first one I bought was well made and has steeped many excellent cups of tea. I wanted one for home and one for the office. I really like the product. However, there is one thing I am not happy with. This one I purchased from Amazon is defective and should never have made it out of the factory. There are no drain holes in the bottom of the ball. There are some molded indentations where the drain holes should be. I guess the Quality Control department just missed this one.
Pros: allows loose tea room to steep and expand, easy to clean
Cons: lack of quality control by the manufacturer, Frieling

swissgold® TF 500 Tea Filter, Black Reviews By Customers
I bought this specifically to use in a mug. When it arrived and I opened the box, it seemed a little too big, but when I tried it out it was perfect.

The lid sits on top only and doesn’t click or squeeze into place. Once you’ve brewed your favorite drink in a mug, open the lid, take the filter out and rest it on the upside down lid – it acts as a drip tray. (as described on the box) Ingenious.

I use this all the time as I go through lots of green tea.

The real Gold filter really turns heads and I get lots of questions and remarks about the filter at work – it looks classy.

There are no taste impairments in the drink and the filter is very well made.

Cleaning is a little troublesome – it won’t work to simply rinse the filter on its own as green tea tends to stick a little to the filter – I found it a lot easier to put the filter back in the empty mug, head over to the sink and rinse the filter while its still in the mug. This helps because water in the mug washes the green tea off the inside of the filter. Check Special Price!

Measure first… – GO Girl – Northern California
This IS a really nice product but measure the cup/travel mug/teapot first so that you are not surprised if your cup is too short or teapot’s opening is too big. The filter will still do it’s job but you have to be careful that the hot water does not spill out and/or the filter does not fall into the teapot. Also be sure to rinse out the tea leaves immediately or they will dry out and stick to the inside of the filter and it becomes a bit difficult to clean out.

Big enough for a pot, small enough for a cup – A. D. Rankin – Virginia, USA
The Swissgold TF 500 is a good infuser. Having been a big tea drinker on and off for years, tea balls just don’t cut it when dealing with many loose teas. The TF 500 is a little taller than a standard coffee mug, and due to it’s design doesn’t raise the water level hardly at all, so there’s little chance of making a mess on the counter. It will tarnish over time, but given the acidity of tea, anything you put in it daily will begin to show those signs eventually.

This is indeed perfect. – Eric Lu – New Haven, CT, USA
It’s a bit tall for some mugs but I think it’s totally worth the money. It makes tea-making and washing easier and hence increases the amount of tea I drink everyday. I also bought TF300 but did not quite like it as much. See my review for TF300 for a comparison. TF300 is not only small but also lacks a filtered bottom which decreases the diffusion rate of tea particles. I promise I will upload a picture soon.

swissgold® TF 300 Tea Filter Reviews By Customers
I purchased this along with the green Tovolo In-Mug Tea Infuser when I misplaced my old nylon cup infuser. I had bought the nylon infuser years ago from a kitchen shop where I also purchased loose herbal tea blends. This infuser works even better than the nylon. Very little sediment came through! I really wanted to like the Tovolo one since it was so cute, colorful and cheap but decided to get the swiss gold too to be safe. This was the only useful one. It is great for about 12 ounces of tea or less. If the top of the cup is larger than 3 inches you might want to get the TF 500. The discriptions on the items helped me to decide between the two. Those reviewers who downgraded this one as being too small must be using large coffee or cocoa mugs. This is for a tea mug! The top is only a little over 3 1/2 inches wide. The bottom is narrower. It is about 2 1/2 inches from the bottom to the bottom of the plastic top, 3 1/2 total. I really like the lid to help infuse the tea better and to use as a tray for the infuser afterwards. Enjoy! It is very pleasant to use. Check Save Price!

Great for loose leaf teas – Jenny B – North Carolina USA
I would recommend this tea filter to anyone looking for one with very small holes. Makes it perfect for Twinings loose leaf teas and any other brand with small pieces. So far, I haven’t had any problems with tea dust or loose pieces floating in my tea. It’s easy to clean and the perfect size for a single cup of tea. I use mugs that hold anywhere from 10 to 16 ounces and this filter fits great in them all. It’s more than some others out there, but I am glad I spent the extra and am excited to keep using it!

Patience – Nancy H. Lingmann – Oregon City, OREGON United States
I bought this to use as a strainer in making soy milk. But because the strainer is so small, you can only put small amounts in at a time, making it very time consuming. So I won’t use it for that. But I’m sure it will be great for make tea.

save your money-don’t buy – Estelle Goldstein – Tamarac, FL
I bought the gold filter in California because I left my Finum Tea Filter in Florida. What a waste of money. It’s small, holds very little tea and is inadequate all around. The Finum Filter that Amazon sells is the best, holds enough tea, fits well on a cup or mug and washes easily, even goes in the dishwasher. Just bought two more of them and will take them with me whenever I travel.

Small – buy the bigger one – Eric Lu – New Haven, CT, USA
I bought TF300 after buying and loving my TF500. I will upload a picture of the two filters side by side in two weeks but for the moment let me just describe their sizes.
TF300 is smaller than the little cup you see in the washroom on a plane (economy class, that is to say…) Hence, it does not allow tea leaves to expand sufficiently. More importantly, its bottom is completely made of plastic, unlike TF500 which has a further layer of filter. This further restricts the diffusion of tea into the water. TF500 is slightly slightly bigger than the small paper/plastic cups (for soda, etc) that you can get in supermarkets. It fits most of my mugs perfects though it touches the bottom of one of my mugs. Bottom line is: to make a perfect cup of tea, buy TF500 with a large mug.
