I have used this type of filter for many years and find this Finum filter to be one of the best. This filter has especially fine mesh, which traps all but the most infinitesimally small sized particles of tea or coffee. This filter has a most generous, well thought out size and shape, which fits most cups and many teapots, allowing free flow of water and complete unfurling of whole leaf teas. They are German-made. It is sturdy enough with reasonable care, washes or rinses easily and completely with no “hidden traps” for leaf particles or grounds and lasts just about forever. The cover, which DOES NOT attach, but merely sits on top, helps to keep your water warmer while steeping and functions as a drip-proof coaster to hold the filter when you are finished. The downside with all of these type filters is that, eventually, the filter holes will slowly become so clogged with tea/coffee oils and particles that they will be impossible to thoroughly clean, thus needing to be replaced. (I’ve tried every method of cleaning!) This occurs much sooner when using coffee, but eventually happens with tea usage, as well. But, for the price, they are not too expensive to replace every few years and overall, provide a far superior way to steep tea/coffee. In the long run, they are much cheaper than tea bags, better for the environment and allow a much more varied and pleasurable tea experience. We very much like these and will purchase again. The large size is still small enough to fit into a standard-issue coffee cup, and basically makes a bathtub for your tea leave to swim in while they’re brewing.

Much better than the spoon version like this Norpro Grip-EZ Tea Infuser With Cup, or the over the cup with handle versions like this Norpro Decorative Tea Strainer with Cup. The spoon doesn’t allow the tea leaves to drift about, and the handled baskets I’m always knocking over.

The mesh size on this strainer is also so fine that the finest loose herb tea (my personal fave, Desert Sage Tea by Republic of Tea Desert Sage Tea by The Republic of Tea – 2.8 oz loose) won’t sift through the mesh and into your brew.

Pros:
Fine mesh
Sturdy while brewing
Comes with lid to keep hot while brewing and to refrigerate once-used tea leaves for a second brewing

Cons:
Might not fit your particular teacup/pot. But I doubt it! If you’re worried, they have a smaller size. =) Check Save Price!

How did I make tea without it? – Eireann – Pennsylvania
I purchased my first Finum Tea filter from a lovely tea shop in Vermont, at the recommendation of the shop owner. I found it so easy to use & clean that I bought more for Christmas gifts & another for myself. I have both the large & medium. The medium size is better for most of my mugs, and the large is good for pots of tea & travel mugs. I have used other tea filters, and haven’t found any that work as well as the Finum. Some filters have holes that are too large & allow bits of tea to end up in the bottom of your cup, while others have holes that are so small that you have to pour water in very slowly so it won’t overflow. If you are a fan of loose tea, I highly recommend this product!

I use it with gunpowder green tea and put a thin layer of tea at the bottom of the infuser….

it blossoms up almost to the top…. this works PERFECTLY for me… no tea in the cup… I use it with a large cup but you could use a lot more tea and probably use it in a kettle.

I like a good strong steeped tea and let it infuse for awhile…I know, I’m weird — totally ruined the bouquet or whatever the tea itself… but I’m not after the flavor (which is delish), I’m after the green tea caffeine
(and anti-oxidants, of course)

The drip cap is perfect… I don’t think I fully realized it included this and so that was a huge bonus… I keep meaning to try to steep twice from the same bit of tea but one cup is usually strong enough for me.

I wrote the company to find out if the plastic used in this is BPA-free (friend of mine is obsessed with this) and was assured that it is free of BPA… this is a good quality product that I’ve used every day for 3 weeks.

All you need to know:
* Cheap
* Filter is small enough to catch even smaller particles. I made Rooibos in this, which is a very fine tea, and none of the leaves got in my cup.
* Easy to clean. Mostly because of the very fine filter, everything stays on the surface, instead of needing to clean inside the filter.
* Easy to use. Much easier than a tea ball.
* Lid doubles as a rest. Nice to have somewhere to put this after steeping that won’t get everything wet, and where it won’t pick up the tastes and scents from dirty dishes in the sink.

I’m a recent convert to tea but in using the Finum Brewing Basket I find that the tea has an opportunity to steep better (because the leaves can expand)than in a tea bag and therefore produces a greater quantity and quality of flavor from whatever tea I’m using at the time. For how well it is made and all that it does it is very economically priced and very easy to use. I like being able to amp up the tea by adding more to the basket; letting it steep and then enjoying my latest cup of tea. Highly recommended for making tea but the company states you can make coffee with it also. Well worth the modest price!

I couldn’t justify the expense of the larger Swissgold basket (I have the smaller one), so I took a chance on this one and am glad I did. This large Finum brewing basket proved to be wonderfully functional (even with the finer, more powdery teas) and does does just as good a job at a fraction of the price, even though it’s not nearly as attractive as the Swissgold. Very pleased with it.

These filter bags are great for home and travel for when you don’t want to use or carry a permanent filter.

For travel, when space, weight and convenience is at a premium:
I carry a small stack of these in the smaller individual size to make my own tea and coffee (French press style: coarse ground, 2 tablespoons per cup) when traveling. When done, I can dispose of these in the green bins for organic waste.

For home:
I use these for spices and herbs that tend to leave an aftertaste on my permanent mesh filters or for herbs that tend to distintergrate into a mess. I also use them to make my coffee/tea in my mug to go when rushing out the door in the morning.

These are great!
My wife (our resident tea drinker …) found them larger than she liked.
However … I found if I cut them in half and then used our Food Sealing machine’s heat sealing bar, I could close the bags! (Not incidentally doubling the bags to 200!)

After trying different brands of tea filters, Finum is so far my favorite. I use it everyday for loose herbal tea where fine powder is present, the filter keeps all the powder inside. What makes Finum tea filter stands out is that it keeps tea its true flavor while some other brands (perhaps the paper they used) diminish tea flavor. The large tall size is convenient, I don’t have to fold the top several times and still have to pray that it doesn’t open after a few brew; also works very well in a traveling thermo since the top (opening) can be folded over the lip of any cup. I would not use any other brand of tea filter anymore. My husband now uses it in the coffee machine, too!
