From the Manufacturer
The Quest for the Perfect Cup of Coffee |
| Water | Any hot beverage is made up primarily of water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee, tea, or cocoa. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn’t taste good from the tap it won’t taste any better in your beverage. That’s why the Cuisinart Single Serve Brewing System has added a charcoal water filter that removes chlorine, bad tastes, and odors, for the purest cup every time. Cuisinart recommends changing the water filter every 60 days or after 60 uses, and more often it you have hard water. | The Cuisinart SS-700 Single-Serve Brewing System |
| Coffee | While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee, tea, or cocoa. To achieve the same great quality you receive at coffee bars, you need to use the same quality ingredients. By using the K-Cup, brought to you by some of the most premium brands on the market, you can be assured that you’re getting the finest, freshest gourmet product with every cup you brew. If you choose to make your own coffee make sure all your ingredients are at their freshest. |
| Grind | The grind of coffee and cocoa or the refinement of your tea leaves is critical for proper flavor extraction. With the pre-measured, pre-ground ingredients found in every K-Cup, you can rest easy knowing that it’ll brew perfectly each and every time, locking in maximum flavor and freshness. |
| Proportion | No matter which cup size you choose, the Cuisinart Single Serve Brewing System, working in conjunction with K-Cup, always produces the perfect cup every time. When grinding your own coffee, remember to add the amount of ground coffee that corresponds to the number of ounces being used. |

Coffee LITE
Everything seems to be functioning correctly, but the coffee has been weak. First cups were Timothy's decaf, supposedly a medium strength coffee. I tried the 10 oz setting first, very weak. The default 8 oz setting was a little better, but still far weaker than the tar I'm used to from Starbucks and Java City. Maybe the 6 oz setting will make a strength I can enjoy. I'll try others from the sample pack at sunrise. This is my first machine like this, so I have no base for comparison. After reading about Keurigs, I decided a 3-yr warranty from Cuisinart would be a good thing.
It seems like the water is shooting quickly through the K-cups and not stopping even a microsecond with the grounds to brew through. If I have to regularly drop down to 6 oz I'm going to feel I'm not getting my money's worth from a K-cup.
GOOD: Very quiet, stylish machine. Clear instructions.
NOT SO GOOD: Very big machine for limited counter space, and too tall in the open-for-K-cup position to fit under the cupboards above--needs at least 17 inches vertically. So I had to set up a sort of coffee bar on a table and rearrange surface space all over my kitchen.
Don't go looking for product numbers on the filled machine after you set it up. They're on the bottom of the carton.
If the problem is Timothy's coffee or just a breaking-in period, I'll be back to update.

Waste of time and money
Update 8/28/10: I called Cuisinart Customer Service and told them of the problem as suggested by another user. They are sending me out a new one ASAP and UPS has already picked up the old one (which they arranged for). Apparently I have a 3 year warranty. I'll give it another go. The customer service rep was very nice and extremely helpful.
Piece of junk. It won't brew after 2 months. I have now owned 3 Keurigs and changed to the cuisinart all in 8 MONTHS. Every one of them have broke. I drink one cup of coffee a day and this is perfect for me but I'm going back to a cheap coffee maker that works!!!!

Not a good machine....
I tried really heard to embrace the whole single serve coffee idea. Had a Breville which was having intermittent problems; it would indicate brewing, but not brew anything. It became temperamental to say the least. So, I called Breville and they provided me with a label to return the machine and promised to send me a new one.
In the meantime, I set my sites on this Cusinart Model.
It is going back to BB&B today.
This morning it took me over an hour to make a cup of coffee.
Had it only about 2 weeks.
The first cup was cold and light.
Then it wouldn't make any coffee.
After turning it off an on many times, I pretty much gave up.
I am reconsidering the single serve coffee idea; while it is convenient, not sure it is worth the hassle!

Great so far!
Have had the SS-700 for about 3 weeks now and it's great! No problems with pump issues (so far) that others have described, but glad to have the 3 year warranty just in case. Coffee comes out nice and hot and the variety of K-Cups is great-- as the only coffee drinker in the house, I no longer have to drink a whole pot of the same kind. The My K-Cup is fantastic as well and works perfectly with a few modifications as suggested in other reviews: first, insert a used K-Cup back in the holder and punch a 2nd hole in the bottom; then, take off the foil top, remove the coffee and filter, and cut off the top rim; then place the metal filter of the My K-Cup inside the plastic K-Cup. Also, roll down slightly the rubber gasket on the upper needle for a better seal. Works great and have rarely had a cup that overflows or has coffee grounds in it. The large water tank is great too-- actually can't imagine having one much smaller since I seem to refill it a lot as it is. Only challenge so far is the "travel mug" setting; nice to have, but the My K-Cup doesn't seem to pack in enough coffee for that much volume. Regular K-Cups have been fine so far on both the 8 and 10 oz. settings. Haven't yet tried the "travel mug" K-Cups, maybe those would do the trick. Very satisfied with the purchase.

Good but not for me.
This coffee maker maybe is good but not for me. I like my coffee strong and those packages are good if I would make like 4 oz of a cup. I drink 10 oz. of my cup of coffee so I would have to make 2 packages and that makes inconvenient for me.
the insert for making your own coffee works but same problem to weak for me.
Other then that it has a good future but for 0.00 it would be very Expensive and will not pay off in years for my use.
I purchased thinking my coffee would be something good but is same us regular coffee maker.
