very pretty pitcher – chiot – Los Angeles, CA
I chose Bodum because I wanted a glass water pitcher that would be elegant yet functional. The pitcher is great for what I needed. I do not use the plastic filter. The lid cap is difficult to keep tightly sealed with the rest of the lid seal. I have not checked if this would work better if I used the plastic filter? I just don’t want my daily water to have plastic standing in it all day.

I purchased this very same product from wholefoods for 12.99 recently. I very much enjoy my newest tea cup. Tea leaves can and most likely will get caught in the diffusing slits on the bottom (less so with whole/large tea leaves and even tea bags), but I found a toothbrush (I always keep one in my kitchen with my other dish washing stuff.. but I digress) can keep the diffuser clean. I use it daily now for almost a month. I wish a larger size was available as I drink 3-7 glasses of tea daily (hot and cold). My hands are larger than most (for a woman) and would like a thicker handle; for better leverage and to make it more comfortable if needing to carry while steeping with hot water, but perfectly fine to hold when cooled down. I really like how the lid works is also used to hold the diffuser while drinking or even to stop steeping the tea. Check Special Price!

The cup is beautiful to look at and the aesthetics of it, compared to other personal mugs, was a major deciding factor for when I placed the order. Upon receipt I was completely disappointed. I’d been looking forward to receiving and using the cup, but the cup was smashed due to poor packaging and there was no way to even take it out and completely assess the damage as I was afraid of getting little pieces of glass on my floor.
I really wish Amazon had taken a few minutes to make sure this was packaged properly, it would have made a huge difference.

filter works well with other mugs! – Coup – Big Apple, USA
Bought this a week ago. It’s a bit on the small size, but what I imagined from the photos. I took other people’s advice, and I pour the hot water into the mug first, then place the filled filter into it to avoid the tea getting stuck in the filter grooves by doing the reverse.

I also found to my delight that I can boil my favorite Indian chai with all the spices, and then pour it into the glass filter, which fits into any of my large mugs, including my metal travel one! I’m happy as a clam!

It is very fragile, so I wash it carefully by hand and dry it on paper towels on the counter vs. in the rack with other heavy dishes.

After a long search for a tea infuser, this is the answer for me, a daily tea drinker. I used to have the ball attached to the chain which would inevitably fall to the bottom of my cup. I have purchased and returned many infusers since launching my search. This little gem has a plunger like mechanism. You push the top down and the ball splits in half. You load your tea in the lower half then gradually release the handle so it closes. The “plunger” part does not stay down unless it’s depressed and there is no locking mechanism. The internal spring seems strong but not so much so that it is difficult to push down. It can be depressed with one hand. I like this one because (1) it fits into a variety of cup shapes and sizes, (2) it is extremely easy to wash and is dishwasher safe, (3) I haven’t had any loose tea leak out and it shuts securely and easily (note: my loose tea doesn’t have any super tiny pieces), (4) it feels solidly made and the silicone is nice so your hand doesn’t slip, and (5) I open it and use the open side like a spoon to scoop out the loose tea (rather than use a separate spoon or shaking the contents of the bag into the infuser). It is pricey, but worth every penny for a tea fan like myself. I would highly recommend this item! Check Special Price!

Wow. I had no idea so many people had so much trouble with this pot. I love mine, have had it for years, and it has never broken. I used to have the one with the plastic basket, but the basket tended to get tea stained and unsightly requiring periodic bleaching, so I switched to the metal basket which can just be scrubbed clean. I love it, and would recommend it to the less clumsy. Also, go buy it in a store, so it is not broken during shipping. Five stars. Check Special Price!

My husband first bought the larger, 34 cup Bodum Assam teapress several years ago and we loved it so much we got this smaller one. I just love it and use it a lot more than the larger one, simply because I usually only need two, not four cups of tea. While the first, 34 ounce one is still fine, as other people have mentioned, on the smaller one the filter fit SO TIGHTLY into the teapress I had to really wrestle it out and it would invariably bang against the front side of the glass teapot on its way out. Of course that didn’t last too long, despite all my careful attempts to pry out the filter it eventually broke the glass. I figured the tight fit was an anomoly, and found one locally where I could try out the fit of the filter before buying, and sure enough, it fit fine and was easily removed without my banging it against the tender teapot.

However, the teapot is still awfully tender, and my 2nd one has eventually broken too, just from being jostled in the cupboard. It was cracked for a while and finally broke a couple of days ago.

I Love these teapots, especially the smaller sized one, and can’t live without it. I use it several times a week, if not daily.
This time I did some on-line investigation, and purchased the Bodum Kenya 17 ounce teapot. It arrived just fine shipped from Amazon, no breaks, and I think the plastic handle and little loopy decorative platic dishy thing on the Kenya might provide a little protection against the world. The filter is all plastic, but incidentally the two other metal filter sections that I have left over from my previous Assam teapots also fit in if I decide for some reason that’s better.
I loved this teapot, but if my larger Assam ever breaks, I’ll probably replace that with a Kenya too.

Too fragile to ship – natpds – Memphis, TN USA
I ordered this teapot, along with several Bodum glasses and two books, and, when the box arrived, the teapot was shattered into numerous small fragments. The teapot was not well cushioned inside the manufacturer’s box, unlike Bodum’s glasses. I reported the teapot as defective and Amazon replaced it promptly. Two days later, another teapot arrived, in its own box, and it was also broken, although in fewer, larger pieces. Amazon didn’t put much packing wrap in the box, so it’s difficult to tell whether the fault is Amazon’s or the manufacturer’s. In any case, Amazon won’t send a third teapot, saying they need to contact the manufacturer about the problem.

This teapot is pretty, but I’m not sure I would purchase it in a local store because of its extreme fragility, which is the only way I’m going to be able to get it.

It brews tea beautifully. I’m reading many reviews about people having trouble with breakage and the filter as well after they wash it in their dish washers. Well, I don’t have a dish washer so I can’t comment on that. I only wash it by hand and am gentle, and have had no problems. So I guess I should say, don’t wash it in a dishwasher. Nothing on the box says it’s dishwasher safe anyway.

I’ve only had this pot for a few days and though I’m concerned about the handle being glass I haven’t had a problem so far. I do make sure when I’m pouring tea that the pot is not over a part of my body (such as when you’re pouring over a high table or bar) just because I read a couple of reviews where they say the handle broke and I’d hate for that to happen while I’m carrying scalding hot tea, but I’m hoping Bodum has fixed that problem since then. I got this one because it’s clear and the filter is removable so I can also use it for my flowering teas as well!. The problem is that the top cover of the pot only works if the strainer is in the pot. So if you decide to use a flowering tea or decide to remove the strainer after brewing your tea for a nice look, you don’t have a top to put on the pot because without the strainer this one will fall right through into the pot. They should’ve included a nice glass cover to use when you don’t want to have the strainer in. Other than that I’m having no problems with it so far and will give an update in 3 months or so. Nice tea pot. Though it has a stainless-steel filter, there is a plastic portion to the tea press. If that concerns some folks, it should be considered in making a decision to purchase. Nevertheless, it is nicely made and it works.

When we bought this teapot a few months ago I thought we had found the teapot that we had been looking for for years. It looked cool, glass, stainless steel, european design and all.
However, it turns out to be a poorly designed piece of junk.
When you take the strainer out of the pot, (so that the tea doesn’t get stewed,) you can’t put the lid over the pot because the lid fits into the strainer, not the pot. So you have to get a plate or a little bowl to act as a lid on the pot. Stupid design.
The stainless steel strainer is made in two pieces which are not well fastened together and will keep coming apart in your hands. Annoying.
Because the glass is so thin, (see other people’s comments) the stainless steel strainer has been equipped with a little rubber gasket that I imagine is designed to protect the glass. This gasket keeps coming off in the wash and is fiddly to put back in place. I can’t see this lasting long. On ours the sharp stainless steel edge is already cutting through the gasket. It might have been smarter to make the glass thicker and get rid of the fussy gasket.
The strainer has one edge cut away to align with the pourer in the pot. There is no reason for this when you already have the pourer in the pot.
The holes in the strainer don’t go down to the bottom of the strainer. If the purpose of this feature is to keep little tea leaves from getting through the strainer, then it doesn’t work.
I tried to get my comments through to Bodum on their website. They don’t want to hear, so I’m putting these comments on Amazon.

Glass vs. Plastic Bodum Teapots – G. Robson – Los Angeles, CA
I’ve always appreciated Bodum’s stylish designs, but I haven’t always been impressed by their functionality. Take the Assam teapots. Over the past 3 years I’ve owned both a plastic and a glass teapot in the 34-oz size. Both have worked effectively, yet both had an eventual downfall. The walls of the glass teapot’s body are too thin. After several months of daily use, the handles of the glass teapots cannot withstand the weight of a full pot of tea. Mine fractured around the base of the handle, and thankfully I noticed it before anything more severe could take place. Other reviewers have had issues where their pot has shattered completely, which tells me this was not an isolated incident.

As for the plastic teapots (Bodum Assam 4-Cup Tea Press Teapot), they are much more reliable in terms of use. However, the tea press filter is made of plastic, not stainless steel, which became badly stained within the first month of use with a black tea. It’s a compromise to give up the more stylish, clean appearance of the glass bodum for the more trustworthy construction of the plastic teapot, but in my opinion, its the safer choice.

I really love the Bodum Insulated Glasses, and that lead me to buy this Iced Tea Maker.
This Pitcher works wonderfully, but doesn’t get 5 stars because it is so fragile. I’m on my second one, after breaking my first one by glancing it off of my refrigerator handle. The lid stopper, also, is not a very good design (it sometimes falls off when pouring steeply) but this is a minor point when compared with how nice the rest of the product is.
Don’t buy this if you can’t treat it like fine china. Do buy it if you can.

A tip: the top edge is the most fragile part, so Always have the lid in place (without the stopper) when adding ice, so the hard ice can’t impact said top edge.

One more thing. Bodum should sell replacement pitchers (without the stainless insert and top pieces) for those that do break theirs. Check Save Price!

I read all the reviews for this and among the whiners that add boiling water and crack this beautiful Tea Maker were happy people that that added Hot water and brewed successfully.

In A Tea Kettle I bring the water to a boil,then turn off the heat and let the Kettle sit for 10 minutes.

After the slight cooling period,I pour the hot water in and after several minutes I have the greatest tasting tea all brewed and strong enough to bring to a chill by pouring over ice.

I’m now a coffee in the morning and ice tea on these hot summer days kinda guy.

I saw the other reviews saying this pitcher is very fragile, but I decided to buy it anyway figuring it would be OK as long as I was extremely careful with it. I was wrong. Despite my care, the pitcher cracked after only a few uses.

It is almost beyond belief that Bodum can sell a product this fragile. Needless to say, I’ll be steering clear of Bodum products from now on.

It is too bad because this was the only pitcher and filter I found on the market made almost entirely of glass and metal. I now use the filter in a heavy glass pitcher where it works very well.

i was about to buy the 17 oz. bodum kenya tea press since i typically have only one big mug of tea in the morning. however, the oversized mug i use holds more than 20 oz. – this unit wouldn’t have filled it.

i then measured the capacity of a few “standard” size coffee mugs – each held close to 10 oz.

bodum makes wonderful products, but there’s a chance the volume of tea you can make at one time with this 17 oz pot might not be all you need, depending on how much you drink.

i ended up ordering the 34 oz bodum kenya tea press instead, since “too much is never enough.” Check Save Price!

Almost Awesome – Courtney Shiley –
I like the pot. I want to love it. But the filter doesn’t filter very well; the holes are big enough that I end up eating a lot of leaves. It’s fine if you like tea with very big leaves, but I’m trying out all kinds of teas and the filter just cannot contain rooibos.

Also, I’ve only had it for a week, but the plastic is already discoloring.

I would adore this teapot if it had a metal filter, but as it is I’m already shopping for a new pot.

There are some things to really like in this little tea press and others that have me looking for a replacement. Let’s start with the pros:
+ great size, 17oz is just right for about two mugs of tea
+ good value
+ easy to clean
+ good looks
But here’s my cons:
- plastic filter doesn’t stick well in the pot; if you pour tea you really have to hold it in with a finger or two or it will pop out and cause a mess
- the filter’s holes are too coarse – if you like green or herbal teas or any very finely ground tea leaves, the will get out of the filter and into your cup. That’s my biggest complaint with this
- the filter has about 1/5 of it’s length without any holes. That’s where your tea leaves will be after you depress the plunger. Unfortunately, that’s also where most of the leaves are while brewing, so the exchange between tea leaves and water is very poor while brewing. For the same reason, making just a 6 oz. small tea amount is very difficult – the water barely reaches the tea leaves!

The glass is extremely thin and fragile. I haven’t broken mine, but it would be easy to do. The thin glass loses heat VERY rapidly. There are no marks to indicate volume, and the actual filled volume is approximately 24 ounces, so unless you have pre-measured the water good luck brewing to the correct strength. The infuser basket itself doesn’t have holes in the bottom (intentionally, according to the design) and isn’t particularly effective. Bottom line: there are simpler, easier to clean, and more effective ways to brew a small pot of tea.

The cup is great for hot tea, having a double-layered, borosilicate glass that protects you from the heat and being large enough for a good sized cup. The stainless steel infuser has perforations just the right size to keep the tea leaves from getting into your drink and easy to clean out. Design-wise, I would have liked a handle for the glass, so that the cup wouldn’t accidentally slip from my hands. But aesthetics-wise, the look of the glass cup is simply elegant. I’m nothing but pleased with this product.

The filter holes are larger than your normal Bodum french press, but I haven’t noticed a problem with tea dust or anything. You could always just rinse the tea leaves and dump the rinse (much like you might do for a Pu-Erh tea or if you were decaffeinating your tea).

We love this item! The metal infuser fits perfectly into our clay tea pot… so we boil up some tea, put the loose leaves into this infuser and then set it into our tea pot and let steep.

We have used the cup a few times, and its design keeps the glass from getting too hot. So you can actually drink piping-hot tea without burning your fingers on the glass.

Well-designed and the glass is not thin or flimsey.

This teapot is a good balance between cost and quality. I like the Kenya model because it protects the glass a little and acts as an insulator to protect from the hot/warm glass. The only downside to this pot is because it has a plastic filter, the filter holes are a little bigger than I would prefer and it tends to discolor after some use. But neither of these issues bother me that much. If you want to get a great glass teapot get the one with the metal filter. But if you want a relatively low cost teapot that will do a good job then this one is a good option. Check Save Price!

Major design flaw, lid falls off. – V. Lo –
Here are a few things that made me give is a low rating

1. The lid and the tea leaf holder do not snap tight to the teapot. Therefore, when you try to pour tea out of the pot, the lid and tea leaf holder will fall out. Bad design.

2. Tea leaf holder is made of plastic. I am not comfortable pouring hot water into plastic, just now sure what kind of chemical will leach out of plastic.

Based on these problems, I am returning it.

I used to work for a premium tea company which sells this product plus many other ‘premium’ tea pots – iron, ceramic, etc along w/ the corresponding infusers. We had tons of these Bodum pots around in various sizes and these were our go-to tea pots. Even when we had guests for meetings, interviews, tours, etc, it seemed like we always used these pots rather than bring out some of the more ‘fancier’ pots. Having owned one of these for at least 5 years I feel I can speak with authority here! It’s a good size, looks nice, I’ve had no plunger issues though bits of tea do get caught in the strainer holes. The cavity at the bottom of the plunger shaft that holds the tea leaves post plunge also holds a quantity of water, always a nuisance when you’re trying to shake old leaves into the bin.

But.. the biggest issue by a long way, and the reason I dislike the pot greatly is that it *invariably* spills when you pour. It’s nothing to do with lining bits up, it’s a simple design flaw in the glass pouring lip. If the pot is over half filled with water (and if it’s not, the water won’t hit leaves anyway!) when pouring be ready for a steady dribble round to the bottom of the pot and on to the floor.

I find it incredible that a teapot.. designed for one thing, and one thing only, has such a fundamental flaw in its operation. Surely the designers used it before releasing it on the unsuspecting public?!

So don’t buy this. Buy something else. I’d never buy one again, regardless of how cute they look.

I also own a HuesNBrews teapot. I thought that this one would be so much better and I got the other based on it’s “cuteness”. I like this a lot for teas that I can brew multiple times- it’s SO much easier with this teapot. But the tea leaves get stuck in the infuser’s holes and a lot of sediment and fine leaves get out into the tea. If you brew high quality teas that can be infused multiple times, this is the teapot for you.

While I know I’m echoing other reviews, I think it’s valuable to know whether something is a fluke or happening to many buyers. Having already warped the insert on 1 of 2 units purchased, I was careful thereafter not to let the water fully boil – but that only slowed the warping, and if fact both pitchers developed a near identical crack at the top just under the handle after multiple uses. Not from dropping or other causes – the plastic just can’t stand up to heat!

I have a wonderful 8 year old Braun Plastic tea kettle that I use daily, so I know that the right plastic can certainly stand up to heat. I believe in patronizing manufacturers that make their products to last — “cheap” disposable costs more, in the end!

This is a good product and works really well, and amazon has a great price on it; however, be advised that the infuser is PLASTIC, so if you make flavored teas in it, the flavor lingers. My advice to people who drink more than one kind of tea is to spring for the more expensive stainless steel infuser. One other minor issue–it ought to come with a separate lid for serving in case you remove the infuser to add something to the pot (milk, for example).
