Saeco Odea Giro Fully Automatic Espresso Machine

Saeco Odea Giro Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Features & Specifications Saeco Odea Giro Fully Automatic Espresso Machine The new Saeco Odea Giro Espresso Machine is a low cost alternative to the higher-end machines Saeco offers, yet it is still packed with features. The innovation is in the control panel with the new coffee control ring that allows you to regulate the quantity of coffee poured into each cup with the simple turning of a knob to make any type of coffee. Simple, but stylish, the Odea Giro will have you conjuring up fabulous espressos, cappuccinos, mochas, lattes and all of your favorite coffeehouse drinks with the touch of a finger. All this by just pressing a button? Absolutely! Detailed Product Features: Fully Automatic Espresso & Coffee Brewing Do you like to start your day with an espresso, but dont want to have to clean up the mess? Just press the button and the Odea Giro will automatically grind your coffee beans, and dispense freshly brewed, rich and flavorful coffee into your cup. This machine allows you to choose the volume and strength of your coffee or espresso by simply pressing buttons on the control panel. Then it cleans up and is ready for the next order in less than 30 seconds. Press the brew button once for a single espresso or coffee. Pushing the brew button twice quickly will put a double shot of espresso or coffee in your cup. Utilize the enormous flexibility of this machines programming options by varying the water volume up to 7 ounces and the ability to use up to 9 grams of ground coffee per brewing cycle. By experimenting with the water volume and grams of ground coffee you can fine-tune your coffee and easily program these parameters into the memory. Ceramic Coffee Grinder The ceramic grinder is Saeco’s most recent innovation. After careful research,

I had a Super Automatic espresso machine a few years ago until it went out. I figured it would cost more to get it fixed than it was worth. So, I bought this Saeco Odea Giro and I love it. My other machine was digital and had more options, but was also more expensive. I much prefer the Saeco Odea Giro because it is easier to use, quieter than my other machine and hopefully will last longer. As with most products, the more options and computers you have on it, the more of a chance something will go wrong.

The Giro was designed by BMW. This makes it less boxy looking, like most other espresso machines, and therefore much more pleasing to the eye. The controls are simple and straight forward. Turn it on and it heats up in 30 seconds. Select the amount of coffee to be ground, turn the dial for the amount of water you want and press the brew button. Of course, once you set the first two options, then you only have to press the brew button for the next cup. And that is it. The maximum amount of water it will dispense is about 9 ounces. Of course, if you press the brew button 2 times then you will get twice the amount or two cups of coffee. This amount of water works fine for me because I drink cappuccino.

I have tried different brands of coffee such as, Lavazza, Starbucks, Peets and Illy. I have found that Illy is the smoothest and no bitterness, but is the most expensive. I usually use Starbucks because it has a nice flavor and fairly mild. Coffee is subjective. Just try different brands and blends until you find the one you like the most. Just do not use a flavored or highly oily coffee bean because it could plug up the grinder.

There are four lights on the front. One is the on or ready light. Another one is to let you know when to decalcify. The third light tells you when you need to empty the used grounds, dump box. The forth light has different functions that could mean one of several things. This light will either be on steady, slowly flash or rapidly flash. This light will warn you of one of the following. The water tank is empty, bean hopper is empty, drip try is full, water tank is not pushed in all the way, service door is open, brew group is not installed correctly, coffee bean cover is not securely in place or the water circuit needs to be primed. Just read the manual to see what the light status means.

There is an optional Aqua Prima water filter you can buy. This filter is a must have if you use tap water. Otherwise, you will get a buildup of calcium and other minerals that decalcifying may not totally get rid of. Plus, your coffee will taste much better.

I can not address the froth wand because I have a separate machine I use for cappuccino, but I am sure it works just like other espresso machines.

As with most espresso machines the coffee is not quite as hot as I would prefer. So, I preheat the cup by simply putting about one third cup of water in the cup and microwave it for 40 seconds. This also helps keep the coffee hot longer.

Maintenance is easy and quick. Fill the bean container when it needs it. Empty the dump box every day or whenever it tells you. Empty the drip tray when needed. Fill the water tank when needed. Rinse the brew group at least once a week.

Here are some helpful hints. If the machine has not been used for a few hours and is cold, when you turn it on it will dispense a small amount of water out of the spout. This action primes the pump and cleans the spout of any coffee residue. Place a cup under the spout to collect that water and dump it. That way it will not go into the drip tray and you will not have to empty it as often. Also, do not let the water tank get too low or it will stop in the middle of brewing.

I highly recommend this espresso machine. You could spend a few thousand dollars on one with all the bells and whistles, but the end result is the same. They all make coffee or espresso in the same way.

UPDATE: This was the second Saeco espresso machine I have bought. The first one, which was a different model but the same brand, broke down after a little over 1 year. This Odea went out in less than 6 months. Therefore, I have to downgrade my star rating to 2 stars because of reliability. I will no longer buy this brand. I bought a Delonghi and am very happy with it thus far.

Dont buy it! Customer Service is BAD! Machine is all leaky! – USAImmigrationSupport – Chicago, IL
I have purchased this product back on March as a birthday gift for friends. I paid around 800.00. And a month or two later the machine started to spill coffee to the dump instead to coffee cups. These people contacted Saeco-USA to schedule the repair, but now they want to get away from repairing this machine. They ask lots of things that just does not make sense. They ask for proof of purchase, they refuse to contact Bloomingdale’s store, once we fax them the proof of purchase they never receive it (faxed over 20 times). The customer service is mean, and highly uneducated. So 800.00 for 2 months worth of machine life is way too much in my opinion, better get a Delonghi coffee maker! With his machine I never had any issues.

Great value!!! – R. Harris – Flatlands
Had it about two weeks now and it makes super espresso. I had a semi-automatic and didn’t use it as much because it was a pain. Grind your own coffee, pack it and hope you get it the same quality each time. Results were not consistent. But this one is great. Load the water, beans and you are ready to go for several cups of espresso. Now when I get up in the morning or want a cup in the evening, just press one button, put a cup under the spout for the machine to clean the water from the lines, then pick your grind strength and one shot or two with the stroke of a button. Enjoy!! The frother is better than I have seen on any of the semi automatic machines. Sometimes I just cheat and heat the milk in the microwave and have a latte. It is the flavor that I love but I am a coffee lover… I would definitely buy this machine again. I am anxious to see how this one lasts but it has already saved me about 0 keeping me out of the coffee shops so I figure I will be far ahead regardless. My spouse really likes this because now he doesn’t have to ask me to fix him a drink. He can just punch a button and he has his drinks ready to go. I can pull one shot right after the other. Pulling shots back to back has the same quality from first to last. This machine is really a 10 star in my book.

leaky – M. Shocklee – Marina del Rey, Ca
I have had this machine for just over two years. The espresso it makes is very good. It is very easy to use and easy to clean. It even looks good. BUT…it continually leaks watery coffee grinds all over the counter.
A Saeco service center told me that I need to clean part of the brew group better. I have been cleaning the brew group and surrounding areas until I am sick of it…it still leaks. Also, the water tank and coffee grinds door are very sensitive and causes the machine to stop working frequently until I jiggle everything. Now the motor that turns the brew group is sounding very sick and weak. I am trying to decide whether to send it in for a major overhaul or buy a different machine that does not leak. Either way, it is still cheaper and better tasting than driving to a coffee shop!

Customer Reviews

After a year of use, I would buy it again.
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R4TLLC2JTZQF2 This is my most recent upgrade in the quest for the ideal affordable espresso machine. I have been enjoying the Solis Master 5000 for a year. It's time to share my impression.

It is well suited to a geezer. From grinding the beans, tamping the coffee, delivering the shot of espresso, cleaning itself, and steaming the milk to the finished latte, it's the best of the 6 machines I've owned over the years.

Worth the price
We bought this machine over 6 years ago and have used it several times a day, every day, since receiving it. We used to spend a day at Starbucks and since buying this machine we make 6 or 8 latte's a day for the price of the beans... so it's really paid for itself. The flavor was consistent with Starbucks initially, but over the past year or so it has become not as good- but this is after thousands of cups of espresso- so I'm in the market for a replacement machine now for that reason alone and have decided to buy this same machine again. It has worked every single day without fail and is completely automatic- you just have to remember to empty the grounds container. It has not dissapointed us and it still works great.

Wonderful coffee maker
This is the only super auto espresso machine I have had. It's been running daily for four years and six weeks without a hitch. I'm estimating just at 6,000 cups of coffee. The water container holds 64 ounces, with a large removable lid, easy to fill from the top. The container also lifts right up and off the machine. The bean hopper has the same large lid and holds close to a pound of beans I estimate. The floor of the bean hopper has fairly shallow sloping sides and if you use very oily beans, they can fail to slide into the grinder. It's no problem to just push them on down. There is a little plastic cover over the burr grinder to prevent beans from flying up, I removed it to allow me to push the oily beans down. You need a little Torx bit. The four controls are dead simple: There is a rotary knob to vary the amount of coffee you make. I believe the amount of grinds is the same no matter the cup size you select. Select a small cup size and you get espresso, select a larger cup size for coffee. There is a brew button; hit it once for one cup or twice in quick succession, it will grind twice the amount of coffee, and make two cups. There is a steam button, tap it to get steam. There is a steam/ hot water valve. Open it to get hot water for tea or soup, or if you pressed the steam button, steam for frothing. And boy does this thing make great coffee crema! It will absolutely ruin you for any coffee you get "on the outside." The spout has two openings, you can put one or two cups under it. It slides up and down but not too high, you can't fit really large mugs under there unless you tip them a little sideways. If you thought you could put a really large mug under the spout by removing the drip tray, you can't. The machine won't brew with the drip tray removed, there is a safety switch or interlock. It's not a big issue, just use a mug that fits! The machine has a rotary base so you can swivel it around. You need to do a little maintenance now and then, take out the brew group and rinse it real well, and decalcify periodically. My sister ruined hers by not decalcifying, she uses rock hard San Antonio water. I use well water from a limestone aquifer, and run it through a water softener. The sodium doesn't bother me or this machine! Empty out the drip tray every day, takes about thirty seconds. The used puck holder holds at least 12 pucks I would guess. I empty it daily no matter what, just because I don't like the smell of used coffee grinds wafting around the kitchen. As far as the steam frothing wand , I can't comment because I don't use it. I just drink coffee and espresso. The crema on both is excellent. When I bought this it seemed really expensive at 5, but I see that it is truly a bargain compared to the price of so many other Jura, Delonghi, Saeco and others. Of course the price is no longer 5, but still it is less expensive than many. It's all plastic, if you are concerned with that aesthetic, but the coffee quality is superb. I wouldn't buy any other brand other than just out of curiousity! The thing has never failed and makes great tasting coffee and espresso.
